These are early days for EarthAbbey which is having a very soft launch ... enough so that people can check it out and consider getting involved. We’re working backwards from the idea that the site will be a rich destination with resources and ideas – but they will need to be created by the site’s members.
If you’re interested in the themes of EarthAbbey and would like to blog or have experience with other facets of online community like forum moderation etc then now is the time to get involved. The wiki is also a place where we would like to encourage the creation of factual information relating to sustainability and all things green.
What is online currently is work in progress. When there are more members creating more content the site will change to organise that content. The intention is that it will reflect an actual Abbey, hence the site area names and icons. Web 2.0 meets the middle ages.
The site is my second using ExpressionEngine and it has been great to be able to do the design and content management in house. In fact I can’t remember enjoying a design process as much. ExpressionEngine makes life really easy but doesn’t dictate aesthetics in any way (which was my impression of some of the other free CMS’s around – EE also has a free core by the way). Anyway, embody is now officially up back on the map as a potential design/content management solution.
