May Wishing Exercise: Miracle Steps

Coach Exercises Wishing

by Bruce 04/05/07

This wishing exercise will work best if there are two of you – a questioner and a wisher. The wisher needs to be imaginative and focussed without editing or being shy so the questioner needs to be encouraging and to draw out of the wisher some surprising ideas. It’ll also take a good 10 + minutes at least to do well so protect the time and space from interruption.

The wisher will need 8 pieces of paper and some coloring pens or a marker, and enough space to take eight steps. Start at one end of the space and wait for the first question.

The questioner will ask the starting question first but all the others can be asked in a random order so the journey will take a surprising route as questions follow in a unique order.

Starting Question:

Give space and encouragement for a full and imaginative answer. After the wisher has answered, ask them to draw on one of the sheets of paper a picture or symbol to illustrate their answer. Do this at the end of each answer and ask them to leave the sheet where they’re standing and take one step forward. Then you ask one of the following questions in a random order. (You could write them on separate bits of paper and pick one out of a hat.)

Random Questions:

When they have finished their eight steps, have them look back over the eight pieces of paper and decide which is the one answer that most surprised or excited them. Then work out one action they can take to move in that direction.

These embody wishing exercises would work well at the beginning of a life coaching programme or if you’re looking to explore your own desires for a fulfilling and exciting future direction – use the contact form above if you’d like to know more.
