
You could even imagine your own story. If you think you’ve fallen on hard times, let your imagination run forward to see what optimistic interpretations there might be. I like one of De Bono’s ideas of ‘doing a PMI’.
If you’ve noticed a strong, patterned reaction to something try doing a quick exercise to free your thinking up. PMI stands for Plusses, Minus’ and Interesting. Take five or ten minutes to find five of each. Notice that they are not good and bad; there is less of a value judgement about plus and minus.
